Location: Juja – Kiambu County, Kenya
Property: Alakonya House

Whenever someone mentions Juja my mind instantly associates it with the hot sun, very dusty roads and a myriad of students from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology roaming around. I often dismissed the place and never made the time to explore the offerings of this town.
Last week however an opportunity presented itself to visit an upcoming holiday let / guest house in the town. We drove about 7kms on a very dusty road enduring the scorching Juja sun to discover this hidden gem.
When we arrived at the place I quickly forgot that we were in a “semi-dessert,” it was quite relaxing and soothing providing a complete contrast to the surrounding places.
The property is set on a well maintained compound with a variety of trees providing the much needed shade.
Initially the mzee of the house built it years ago to provide a serene get-away for himself, he however relocated to another country and left the property to his niece who decided to turn it into a guest house.
The house is currently undergoing renovations and is projected to open by early next year.
This little path leads you from the parking area right to the main entrance of the house.
I absolutely loved this mini brook concept with the little bridge.
Right in front of the main entrance is a shaded area, where guests can relax.
The back entrance, leads to two tented rooms for those who would wish to have a camping experience.
There’s also an improvised bar area.
Right next to the pool is another seating area, for lovers and friends lol 😉 (pictured below)
The living room is very spacious. Ideal for house parties as well as ample space for children to run around.
The kitchen transitions to the living area via a bar-like table providing guests with more seating space which could as well be improvised to a buffet table.
The hallway leading to the three in-house rooms. Each room accommodates a maximum of 2 adults.
Outdoor wash rooms.
Extra rooms for guests.
- The holiday let can accommodate at least 20 guests.
- It is a self-catering let, however arrangements can be made to hire a chef at an extra cost.
- There are both in-door and outdoor wash rooms.
- The grounds provide good playing grounds for children. The pool can be covered when not in use as a cautionary measure for children.
- Secure – there is a security gate that is always locked and manned, only booked guests are allowed in.
- The let can be sourced for corporate events as well.
